5 Ways to Green Your Holiday Shopping
Here we are, coming up on the holidays…again. Don’t get me wrong, I love spending time with family and friends during the holidays, the lights, the joy, the chilly weather, but there is one area that I anticipate with trepidation, and that’s people asking me for my Christmas list. I am an adult, but my family loves to shower everyone with gifts. Its part of the holidays that they enjoy, and who am I to put a damper on that?
I really don’t NEED anything. In fact, I am trying to keep a balance on stuff in my home meaning if something comes in, something must go. This year, I was very conscious about what I put on my “wish list”. Here are a few ideas on how to shop with more positive impact this year:
- Donate to charities – let your loved one know you donated to their favorite charity as a gift to them. Millennials will love this. My favorites are Heifer project, my local food bank, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, the Salvation Army and the United Way.
- Buy local – Even if you are not venturing out, go to your favorite local business/restaurant website and purchase a gift card (hopefully, it’s not a chain, franchise is ok).
- Buy on Etsy – Honestly, I have replaced Amazon with Etsy. I search on Etsy first.
- Buy on ThredUp or Poshmark- See my post on #secondhandfirst
- Investigate the brand before you buy. Levi’s, Toad and Co., Patagonia are all brands wearing a sustainable lens.
Good luck and happy shopping!
