Top 10 things your race team can do to “Go Green”

Last modified date

10. Recycle your beer cans – There is nothing like an ice cold beer in the pits…AFTER all the racing is over for the night. It takes a lot less energy to recycle a can than it does to make a new can.

9. Switch from plastic water bottles to reusable. I love my insulated Hydro Flask. It keeps my coffee warm in the morning and my water ice cold on the hot days.

8. Recycle your tires – Tires are one of the coolest products to recycle because they can end up being used for playground equipment or rubber track. It may also be turned into fuel…and that’s still recycling!

7. Find green alternatives for chemicals or cleaners – we use a lot of simple green in our shop!

6. Carpool to the track – There are always multiple families going to the track at different times; coordination can be tricky but will save you in fuel expenses and reduces emissions. It also lets the kids entertain each other!

5. Use LED or Compact Fluorescent Lighting in the shop (and your home) – These types of lighting last longer and use less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs. Be sure to recycle them when they reach their end of life!

4. Recycle/return oil and batteries – Just because it came from the Earth, doesn’t mean it wants to go back there. Oils and fuels are highly refined and are toxic, so don’t dump them, put them in a container and take it back to the auto shop you purchased them from.

3. Clean up the litter- It may not even be yours, but litter is ugly and impacts wildlife. Put it in its place. This includes shield tear offs! I get these are necessary, so if everyone picked up one…

2. Tune your engines – This seems like a no brainer for racing families, but you may focus so much on your race car your forget about your truck and your generator. Keeping them in tune makes them last longer and lessens emissions.

  1. Go solar – We went solar in 2015 and haven’t looked back. Solar panels allow the energy of the sun to power your tools in the shop and flatline your power bill. Interested in learning more? Contact Us
